Limseeds is an independently operating company specialised in breeding asparagus. The company
breeds premium quality varieties of both white and green asparagus for cultivation in different
climate zones and using various cultivation techniques. As well as breeding, Limseeds produces
and sells asparagus seeds and can therefore react rapidly to signals from the market and
provide its customers with specific advice.
With 100% male asparagus varieties only, Limseeds is Europe's market leader. The varieties are
characterised by a long, profitable life, high productivity and excellent quality traits. The
seeds currently being produced commercially are the varieties:
Avalim,
Backlim,
Gijnlim,
Grolim,
Herkolim,
Horlim and
Thielim.
Breeding
During the breeding process, Limseeds uses the most advanced techniques and has its own laboratory,
climate controlled chambers and sterile growing areas. The hybrids are extensively tested in trial
fields located all over the world. Lengthy trials mean having patience, but we are more than willing
to wait as the final result is positioning tried and trusted varieties on the market.
Seed production
Seed production takes place in high quality insect free greenhouses, so any risk of contamination is
excluded. This process is subject to strict quality inspections and management protocols. All further
treatment of the seeds is carried out under the same strictly controlled conditions. After an
exhaustive final inspection the seeds are dispatched to the customers. The quality standards
applied by Limseeds throughout the entire procedure exceed the levels demanded by normal
legislation. At the heart of these accurate protocols and hygiene regulations is an
enthusiastic team of highly trained and skilled employees at all levels within the company.
