Avalim F1
is a 100% male hybrid and highly suitable for production of white and green asparagus in a
temperate climate. Avalim combines very early production with good spear thickness and quality.
Avalim is very suitable for forced early cultivation.
Cultivation
Avalim grows best on fertile, well-drained soils. Our own extensive research has shown that the best
results for white asparagus are achieved with a planting density of 3 - 4 plants per m1 with a planting
depth of 18 - 20 cm. This plant density can be increased by approximately 30% if the asparagus is
harvested green. Thanks to its natural earliness, Avalim is ideally suited to extra forcing techniques,
such as thermal sheeting and mini tunnels. Avalim performs well under various types of sheeting and plastic.
Product
Avalim has a good production potential, excellent quality and stems of a good thickness. It has creamy
white stems, a very good closed tip and little or no susceptibility to hollow stems and rust. Three
quarters of production is in grade 18 - 28 mm. Avalim has a particularly good flavour.
Foliage
Avalim's very uniform foliage is dark green, erect and vigorous. The foliage is naturally resistant to
foliage diseases and stays green until late in the autumn. These good foliage traits also make Avalim
ideal for organic cultivation methods.
