Herkolim F1
is a 100% male hybrid and highly suitable for production of white asparagus in a
temperate climate. This variety is middle-early and an ideal "yield crop", thanks to its
high productivity combined with uniform thick stems. Herkolim is ideal for farms where
improved results are required through reducing labour costs. Herkolim also performs well
in heated conditions.
Cultivation
Herkolim grows well on all well-drained soils. Herkolim is resistant to stress. Combined with
its spear thickness and vigour, this makes Herkolim ideal for replanting. Our own practical
experience has shown that Herkolim performs best with a planting density of 4.5 - 6 plants
per m1. High planting densities do not usually result in thin stems, but give even higher
uniformity and better quality. The recommended planting depth is 18 - 20 cm. Herkolim is
ideal for cultivation under black-white plastic sheeting. Good sheeting management and the
right harvesting frequency ensure production of high quality asparagus.
Product
The very uniform thickness of Herkolim means more than 60% of production is class 22 - 28 mm.
Herkolim produces a premium quality product with straight, smooth, white stems with very few
hollow stems or pink discolouration. The product rates high on flavour.
Foliage
Herkolim has broad, robust and open foliage, which quickly dries in the autumn, so it is less
susceptible to mould. These good traits also make Herkolim ideal for organic cultivation methods.
Seeds
All seed supplied by Limseeds is subjected to strict internal quality inspections to test germinating power
and varietal purity. Before the seeds are supplied they are inspected and tested again by Naktuinbouw,
an independent inspection service regulated by Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
