Vitalim F1 is a 100% male hybrid and is extremely suited for the cultivation of white asparagus in regions with a Mediterranean climate. Vitalim combines very early production with a high yield and a long profitable lifetime. Vitalim is also extremely suitable for cultivation systems aimed at early harvesting.

Cultivation
Vitalim performs best in well-drained, fertile ground. In research spanning several years, the best results for white asparagus were achieved with a planting density of 4 plants per metre and a planting depth of 16 - 20 cm. Planting densities of 5 plants per metre are possible on fertile, drought tolerant ground or on land with drip fertigation. Being a naturally early producer, Vitalim is very well suited to forcing methods using thermal plastic or mini tunnels. Vitalim requires good moisture levels, especially in the first years of production; good vigorous development in the first years is necessary for high production in subsequent years.

Product
Vitalim has a very high yield potential, excellent quality and a good diameter. The uniform product is break-resistant, has a firm tip and is not susceptible, or hardly, to hollow spears or physiological rust. Proper post-harvest handling prolongs the shelf-life and reduces the risk of pink colouration. Over 70% of the product falls within the 16 - 24 mm class. Vitalim's flavour is judged as exceptionally good.

Foliage
The uniform, vigorous Vitalim foliage grows very straight. The foliage is naturally disease resistant and is not susceptible to lodging. The good foliage characteristics therefore make Vitalim perfect for organic production.
